Sometimes known as ascorbic acid, vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin found in such foods as citrus fruits, green and leafy vegetables, tomatoes and cauliflower. In addition to the formation of collagen, vitamin C is a key protector of the body from the ravages of potentially harmful free radicals, as well as an effective aid in maintaining a healthy immune system.* The body cannot make or store vitamin C, so it must be replaced every day because much of it is washed out of the body daily through the kidneys.
